A CHRISTMAS CAROL

PROMPT:
For this project, you will select a book and redesign its cover, creating an original and visually compelling design that reflects the book’s theme, genre, and target audience. Your cover must include a thoughtfully arranged title and author’s name, along with appropriate imagery, colors, and typography. You are required to use professional typesetting software to layout your design, ensuring it meets industry standards for print, including proper dimensions, bleed, and resolution. Finally, prepare your cover as a print-ready file suitable for high-quality printing, and submit it along with a brief explanation of your design choices and how your version improves upon the original.

RESPONSE:
For this project, I undertook a complete redesign of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Rather than focusing on the traditional holiday themes typically associated with the book, I chose to highlight the central narrative of personal transformation through the lens of greed, embodied by the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge. This thematic shift informed my decision to move away from conventional Christmas imagery and instead adopt a more restrained and symbolic design approach. The final cover draws inspiration from the minimalist aesthetic found in Barnes & Noble’s classic literature series, featuring a clean layout, subdued color palette, and simplified typography. This approach not only aligns with the timeless nature of Dickens’ work but also reinforces the moral weight and introspective tone of the story.
